About Summerlin

Summerlin is a master-planned community of 22,500 acres along the western edge of the Las Vegas valley, about nine miles west of the Strip and next to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Its history goes back to the 30,000 acre parcel Howard Hughes bought in 1952; the first family moved in in March 1991. Summerlin is organized into villages, including The Hills, The Trails, The Canyons, The Arbors, The Willows, The Ridges, The Vistas, The Paseos, The Cliffs, Reverence, Redpoint, Kestrel, and Grand Park. Downtown Summerlin opened in 2014, City National Arena (the Golden Knights' practice facility) in 2017, and Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Aviators, in 2019.

Red Rock Canyon, Nevada's first National Conservation Area, sits 17 miles west of the Strip, and many Summerlin homes back onto open desert or trails. That's a beautiful setting, and it also means long rear property lines, side yards, and patio doors that deserve sensors and camera coverage.

Two jurisdictions, one police department

Summerlin is split for local government. Summerlin North and West are in the City of Las Vegas, Ward 2, while Summerlin South is an unincorporated town administered by Clark County. Both parts are policed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which is responsible for police services in the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. LVMPD's Summerlin Area Command opened in 2020 at 11301 Redpoint Drive.

Here's the part many homeowners don't know. LVMPD's communications FAQ says that for burglar alarms, the monitoring company dispatches a guard, and the department broadcasts the alarm but does not dispatch a unit, although an available officer may respond by choice. So in Summerlin, the plan for what happens after an alarm matters as much as the sensors. Ask us about video verification, which lets our monitoring center see what triggered an alarm, and patrol response options.

HOAs, gates, and design guidelines

If your Summerlin neighborhood has an HOA or a gate, exterior equipment has to fit its rules and look right. We:

  • Place cameras and video doorbells where they cover entries, side gates, and back walls without facing neighbors' windows
  • Use discreet mounts and finishes that match stucco and stone, and keep wiring out of sight
  • Set up smart locks and access codes for landscapers, pool service, and guests, so no one needs a key
  • Work from your association's written guidelines; bring them to the site visit

Heat and monsoon season

The National Weather Service describes the Las Vegas monsoon as typically July and August, with scattered thunderstorms, gusty winds, and flash flooding, waning by September. Storms and outages are exactly when you want a system that stays online. Our standard panel, the Qolsys IQ Panel 5, is dual-path with a built-in cellular communicator, and we install a backup battery in every panel. For homes on the west edge, we also choose outdoor cameras with good low-light performance for dark desert backyards.

What we install in Summerlin

For homes

For businesses

From Downtown Summerlin storefronts to medical offices and professional suites, we install business security systems, video surveillance, access control, and remote guarding, plus fire alarm monitoring and inspection from the same team.

Taking over an existing Summerlin system

If your Summerlin home already has alarm wiring and sensors from the builder or a past owner, we evaluate what is there, keep what is in good condition, and connect it to our monitoring when we can. Monitored systems are on a 3 year agreement, explained up front.

★★★★★ Isaac and Isaac from Sting were amazing!!! They showed up on time and even got the installation done before the quoted time. Isaac explained how the system worked in detailed and set up my cameras and doorbell without any issues. I would recommend Sting to anyone looking to upgrade their security system and ask for Isaac.

★★★★★ From the beginning, Sting Alarm has been so easy to work with. From Jeff in Sales, to scheduling, and finally when our tech came out in a Saturday for the installation, everything was seamless. Our tech Isaac was fantastic. He was neat and cleaned up after the installation, and took time with me and my husband to get us set up on the app. He was patient, walking us through all the features.… Read on Google

Frequently asked questions

Is Summerlin part of the City of Las Vegas?

Partly. Summerlin North and Summerlin West are inside the City of Las Vegas (Ward 2), while Summerlin South is an unincorporated town administered by Clark County. Both parts are policed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Which police station serves Summerlin?

LVMPD's Summerlin Area Command, which opened in 2020 at 11301 Redpoint Drive, serves the area.

Will police respond to my burglar alarm in Summerlin?

LVMPD says that for burglar alarms the monitoring company dispatches a guard, and the department broadcasts the alarm but does not dispatch a unit, although an available officer may respond by choice. That is why video verification and a guard or patrol response plan matter in Summerlin.

Can you install cameras that meet my Summerlin HOA's rules?

We plan exterior camera and doorbell placement around your association's design guidelines, use discreet mounts and finishes, and keep wiring hidden. Bring your HOA's guidelines to the site visit and we will work from them.

Does my system work during a monsoon power outage?

Yes. Our standard Qolsys IQ Panel 5 has a built-in cellular communicator, and we install a backup battery in every panel so the system stays online while the power is out.
