Security in Henderson: what is different here

Henderson is not part of the City of Las Vegas. It was incorporated in 1953 and, according to the city, is Nevada's second largest city with more than 350,000 residents. That independence shows up in three ways that matter for an alarm system.

Henderson has its own police department

Alarm calls inside city limits go to the Henderson Police Department, not to Las Vegas Metro. When we set up your monitoring, the right dispatch information for a Henderson address is part of the account from day one.

Henderson has its own alarm code

Henderson regulates alarm systems in Municipal Code Chapter 4.18 and in its noise code, Chapter 8.84. The points that affect your system:

  • Siren time limits. Audible alarms need an automatic 20 minute cutoff or must be silenced within 20 minutes (4.18.250), and the noise code requires an exterior burglar alarm to shut off within 15 minutes (8.84.030).
  • No emergency-vehicle sound-alikes. A siren cannot be one that could reasonably be confused with an emergency vehicle siren (4.18.220).
  • Repeat false alarms have consequences. More than three false alarms in 30 days, or six in 90, eight in 180, or twelve in 360, starts a 14 day repair window, then a citation (4.18.290), with a minimum fine of $250 plus court costs (4.18.300).
  • Permits. We did not find an alarm user permit or registration requirement. The code requires an electrical building permit for each installation location instead (4.18.200).

Most false alarms come from a few fixable causes: a door sensor that has worked loose, a motion detector aimed at a ceiling fan or a pet's path, or a new household member who doesn't know the code. We place and test sensors to avoid them, and we train everyone in the home before we leave.

Henderson is a city of master-planned communities

The city says it has 25 master-planned communities, including Ascaya, Black Mountain Vistas, Cadence, Cornerstone, Inspirada, Lake Las Vegas, MacDonald Ranch, Southfork, The Canyons at MacDonald Ranch, and Tuscany. If your community has HOA design rules for anything mounted on the outside of a home, we plan camera and video doorbell placement around those rules, use mounts and finishes that look like they belong, and keep wiring out of sight. In Lake Las Vegas and other gated neighborhoods, we also look at how guests, deliveries, and service providers get in.

Built for Henderson heat

Henderson shares the valley's climate. The National Weather Service's 1991 to 2020 normals show Las Vegas averaging 78.2 days a year at 100°F or higher, and summer is when power outages and stressed electronics show up. Our standard panel is the Qolsys IQ Panel 5, which is dual-path with a built-in cellular communicator, and we install a backup battery in every panel so the system stays online through an outage. Outdoor cameras go where they get the shade and airflow the location allows.

What we install in Henderson

Home security

Home security systems with door and window sensors, motion detection, and app control; smart home cameras and video doorbells; smart locks; and water leak detection that can shut off the water automatically when a leak is found. Every monitored system is watched 24/7 by our UL-listed monitoring center.

Business security

Henderson is home to the Raiders headquarters and practice facility, the Silver Knights' arena, Lee's Family Forum, and Henderson Executive Airport, along with the retail centers, offices, clinics, and restaurants that serve a city this size. For Henderson businesses we install business security systems, video surveillance, access control for doors and gates, and remote guarding, where live professionals watch your cameras and respond as activity happens.

Fire protection

As a licensed fire protection contractor, we handle fire alarm monitoring and inspection and maintenance for Henderson commercial buildings, so your security and life safety fire protection come from one vendor.

Already have a system in Henderson?

If you moved into a Henderson home with an existing alarm, or your current provider isn't meeting expectations, we start with an evaluation of the equipment, coverage, and compatibility. In many cases the existing sensors can stay and be connected to our monitoring. Monitored systems are on a 3 year agreement, and we explain the terms before you sign.

★★★★★ Isaac and Isaac from Sting were amazing!!! They showed up on time and even got the installation done before the quoted time. Isaac explained how the system worked in detailed and set up my cameras and doorbell without any issues. I would recommend Sting to anyone looking to upgrade their security system and ask for Isaac.

★★★★★ From the beginning, Sting Alarm has been so easy to work with. From Jeff in Sales, to scheduling, and finally when our tech came out in a Saturday for the installation, everything was seamless. Our tech Isaac was fantastic. He was neat and cleaned up after the installation, and took time with me and my husband to get us set up on the app. He was patient, walking us through all the features.… Read on Google

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an alarm permit in Henderson?

We did not find an alarm user permit or registration requirement in Henderson's municipal code. Chapter 4.18 instead requires an electrical building permit for each alarm installation location, which the installing contractor handles, and it sets rules for audible alarms and repeat false alarms.

How long can an alarm siren sound in Henderson?

Henderson's alarm code calls for audible alarms to have an automatic 20 minute cutoff or be silenced within 20 minutes, and the city noise code requires an exterior burglar alarm to shut off within 15 minutes of activation. We program sirens to stay inside those limits.

What happens if my alarm has repeated false alarms in Henderson?

Under Henderson Municipal Code 4.18.290, more than three false alarms in 30 days (or six in 90, eight in 180, or twelve in 360) starts a 14 day window to fix the problem, after which a citation can follow. Section 4.18.300 sets a minimum fine of $250 plus court costs.

Which police department responds to alarms in Henderson?

The Henderson Police Department, the city's own police force, covers addresses inside Henderson city limits, including Lake Las Vegas. Unincorporated areas nearby are covered by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department instead.

Does Sting Alarm install in Henderson HOA and gated communities?

Yes. We install in master-planned and gated communities across Henderson and design camera placement with your HOA's exterior rules in mind. Call (702) 737-8464 to set up a visit.
