Scottsdale alarm permits: the ten-day rule

Scottsdale sets a short deadline for permits. According to the City of Scottsdale's alarm permit page:

  • All alarm systems within city limits need an annual permit, homes and businesses alike.
  • Apply within ten days of the system becoming operational.
  • The application costs $10, and so does each yearly renewal. A permit runs one year from activation or application.
  • Renewal requires paying any fees and service charges from the previous permit period.
  • Questions go to the city at 480-312-7400 or AlarmCTO@ScottsdaleAZ.gov.

Because the clock starts when your system goes live, we handle the permit paperwork with you on installation day.

Scottsdale false alarm fees

With a valid permit, Scottsdale gives you two free false alarms per permit year. After that:

False alarm in the permit year Charge
1st and 2nd Free
3rd $50
4th $75
5th and 6th $100 each
7th and each one after $200 each

Without an active permit, each false activation also carries a $50 unpermitted fee. Source: City of Scottsdale.

The best way to stay in the free zone is a system that is placed and set up correctly and a household that knows how to use it. We train everyone before we leave, place motion detectors away from pets and moving air, and recommend video verification so operators in our monitoring center can confirm a real event on live video before police are dispatched.

CamerEyes: put your cameras on the map

The Scottsdale Police Department runs CamerEyes, a free, voluntary registry for residents' and businesses' security cameras. The police department does not get access to your cameras, and you are not obligated to share video. After a crime, authorized investigators can see which registered cameras are in the area and contact you directly to request footage, instead of knocking on every door.

If we install cameras at your Scottsdale home or business, registering them with CamerEyes is free and voluntary, and good placement means your footage is actually useful when someone asks for it: faces at the front door, plates in the driveway, and the side gate covered.

Vacation Watch and your system

The Scottsdale Police Department offers a Vacation Watch so officers can drive by your home while you are away. Submit the request 48 to 72 hours before your trip. The city is clear that there is no guarantee officers can check every day, since checks depend on priority calls for service.

That gap is where a monitored system earns its keep. Your sensors, cameras, and our monitoring center watch the house every hour you are gone, and you can check in from the app wherever you are. Consider adding smart water leak detection and temperature sensors so a failed water heater or AC gets caught while the house is empty.

Home security for Scottsdale homes

Scottsdale homes run from condos and townhomes to large desert properties with long driveways, pools, and casitas. We design around the property:

  • Door, window, motion, and glass break sensors with a touchscreen panel
  • Video doorbell, floodlight cameras, and outdoor cameras for driveways, pools, and outbuildings
  • Smart locks, lights, and thermostat in the same app
  • HOA-aware camera placement in communities with exterior rules
