About Boulder City

Boulder City is its own city, incorporated on October 1, 1959 as a special charter city. It is small by valley standards: the U.S. Census Bureau counted 14,885 residents in 2020 and estimates 14,884 in 2025. Growth is managed on purpose: Boulder City has a Controlled Growth Management Plan in its code (Title 11, Chapter 41), and its City Charter prohibits gambling (Section 128).

The city calls itself the "Home of Hoover Dam," and its historic district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Boulder City police and alarm rules

Alarm calls in Boulder City go to the Boulder City Police Department, not to Las Vegas Metro. The city regulates alarms in City Code Title 7, Chapter 4. The key rules:

  • Alarm companies need a city business license (7-4-3).
  • False alarm fees apply to each false alarm after six in a 12 month period, at an amount set by City Council resolution (7-4-4(A)).
  • Police can stop responding. After twelve false alarms in 12 months, the Police Department will no longer respond to that alarm until there is proof of repair or training (7-4-4(B)).
  • No new direct connections from alarms to the police department, except for city facilities (7-4-6).
  • No user permit. We did not find an alarm user permit requirement in the chapter.

With a hard limit like that, preventing false alarms is part of the job. We place motion sensors away from pets, ceiling fans, and HVAC vents (or use pet-friendly detectors), make sure every door and window contact is tight, and train everyone in the household before we leave.

★★★★★ Isaac and Isaac from Sting were amazing!!! They showed up on time and even got the installation done before the quoted time. Isaac explained how the system worked in detailed and set up my cameras and doorbell without any issues. I would recommend Sting to anyone looking to upgrade their security system and ask for Isaac.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an alarm permit in Boulder City?

We did not find an alarm user permit in Boulder City's code. Title 7, Chapter 4 requires alarm businesses to hold a city business license and sets rules for false alarms, including a fee for each false alarm after six in a 12 month period.

Can Boulder City police stop responding to my alarm?

Yes. Under City Code 7-4-4(B), after twelve false alarms in a 12 month period, the Police Department will no longer respond to that alarm until there is proof of repair or training. Good installation and user training keep you far from that limit.

Can my alarm connect directly to the Boulder City Police Department?

No. City Code 7-4-6 does not allow new direct alarm connections to the police department except for city facilities. Your system is monitored by our monitoring center, which handles dispatch.

Do you install security in Boulder City's historic district homes?

Yes. Wireless sensors and carefully placed cameras let us protect older homes without opening walls, and we can talk through any historic preservation considerations for exterior equipment.
