Mesquite's false alarm rule
Mesquite handles false alarms through a fee rather than a permit. Under City Code 5-1-12, systems relayed through a central station are charged $25 per false intrusion alarm in excess of six in a 12 month period, and newly installed systems get a 45 day grace period. We did not find an alarm user permit requirement in the code.
Be careful with what you find online: some "City of Mesquite alarm permit" pages and forms belong to Mesquite, Texas, not Mesquite, Nevada.
To keep false alarms down, we place motion sensors away from pets, fans, and vents, check that every door and window contact is snug, and walk everyone in the household through arming and disarming until it is second nature. We use the 45 day grace period to fine-tune a new system.
